
Our founders Antonio Álvarez Desanti and Nuria Marín Raventós established the company Álvarez y Marín S.A. in 1982, currently Álvarez y Marín Corporación. Product of both their hard work, now also joined by their two daughters Adriana and Andrea, together with a group of highly qualified and committed people, the Corporation today is a dynamic and entreprenurial business group that ventures into areas as diverse as the financial, real estate, agriculture and more recently tourism.
During the early years, the company participated in small and medium enterprises, engaged in planting and distributing roasted peanuts and cashew nuts, footwear production, and distribution of furniture and wood trim as well as small construction projects. These experiences allowed them to learn and know about the productive activity and pave the way for expansion and growth to current levels.
In 1992, the company takes one of the most important steps in management by developing its first farm for producing and exporting bananas, this first farm was named Banana Calinda. This would be the beginning of the Calinda Group, the country’s second largest independent fruit exporter which employs more than 1,000 families. This agricultural division currently has five farms: Bananera Calinda (1992), Bananera Las Valquirias (1998), Bananera Támesis (2001 ), Bananera Córcega (2007) and Bananera Continental (2010). Currently all properties together count 1.909 producing hectares.
It was also during these years the finance division had a wide growth. Founded in 1988, Financiera Brunca, S.A. acquired in 2001 100% stake in Financiera Belen S.A. merging it with Financiera Brunca. A few months later the assets of the Guapiles Branch of BCT Bank are acquired. Currently the company operates under the name Fiduciaria Brunca, S.A. after the partners made the decision to unsubscribe from SUGEF for more versatility and efficiency in the service to our customers.
In the Real Estate area, the Corporation operates in the segments of residential and office rent, property for sale and development of housing estates since 1995. In addition to the construction and operatin of a Shopping Mall in Desamparados. Our goal is to be a highly professional company that meets the demands of an increasingly demanding market in an environment that has traditionally operated on an informal basis.
Being aware that the tourism industry represents one of the most dynamic productive sectors and fastest growing in the country we created our newest division, the Tourism Development. To date we have acquired two properties in the Caribbean and one in the province of Heredia in order to cover the future of both tourism on the beach and in the mountains. We also acquired 685 hecatares of land with 12 km of beach in Bocas del Toro, Panama. We are currently working on the master plan of this project.
